The Skinny: Opened during the pandemic and quickly named to a slew of best new restaurants lists, Mission District restaurant Shuggie’s launched with “trash pies” — pizzas made with discarded ingredients. In late 2025, owners Kayla Abe and David Murphy closed for a revamp, dropping “Trash Pies + Natural Wine” from its name. Shuggie’s 2.0 recently (re)opened with a menu of original plates highlighting and upcycling food waste into delicious food.
