Solano Avenue specialty foods market Of All Places is a reflection of its owners’ robust background in food and hospitality. Co-founders and married couple Joe and Celia Catalino have worked in the industry for years, including a stint for Joe at dearly departed dining destination The Slanted Door. Together, they make the store a bright spot on the Berkeley strip.
Working with a blend of local and nationally acclaimed brands like Bolita Masa, Date Better, Flowerhead Tea, Like Family Olive Oil, Temescal Brewing, and Wonderwerk Wine, the shop — always with either Joe or Celia at the register — is a fun visit, whether you walk away with a jar of duck fat (and a passed along potato recipe) or some Bezi labneh.
There’s also a smart selection of wines, snacks, and even cookbooks and magazines. A fridge is stocked with interesting cheeses, meats, and condiments. The design, straight out of a Wes Anderson movie, elevates the shopping experience. –Flora Tsapovsky
