It’s Wednesday morning. What’s the scene at your workplace?
On Wednesdays, I get up early and bike to the gym. I recently turned 50, and I’ve gotten into weightlifting. I pop into CoffeeShop on my way in to grab a latte and maybe a pastry. Then I walk into work. The production team starts work earlier than me these days, so when I get there they are usually busy making clogs. I check in with our operations manager and see how things are going.
My job these days is focused on design development, marketing, and business strategy. I usually post on Instagram in the morning, and then meet with the team about whatever we are focused on in the afternoon. We have lunch as a team, crowded around the beer garden table and benches. It’s nice to break and catch up about what’s going on, what people are watching or reading.
What’s on the agenda for today?
I’m headed to Italy for a materials development trip, so I’m busy getting everything ready for that, and to make sure the team is set up for success while I’m there. It’s the first time I’ve been to Italy in over 25 years and I’m really excited.
Any restaurant plans today, tonight, this weekend?
My wife and I have a tradition of having dinner at Piccino after every big work event. It’s a little reward for all the hard work we put in. I love that place, the food is great, and the team is so lovely.
How about leisure or culture?
Every Sunday I take my dog Lola for a long city walk. I listen to my Chani astrology reading for the week and hike up and down the hills of SF.
Any weekend getaways?
When I’m not in the city, I’m out in West Marin. It’s one of my favorite places on Earth. We love Point Reyes and head out there for kayaking, swimming, and picnicking on the beach.
What was your last great vacation?
Last summer, my wife and I explored Cornwall for the first time. I grew up on the East Coast of the UK, and so that area (the most westerly point of England) was totally new to me. We were so surprised to discover a region that felt a little like California in the UK. One particularly magical town we stayed in was called Mousehole (pronounced Mouzel).
What’s a recent big-ticket purchase you love?
I just discovered this wonderful handmade bag company called KMM & Co. I got myself one of their market totes for Christmas. It was expensive, but I know I’ll have it for the rest of my life.
Where are you donating your time or money?
For the past few years, we have been donating to the Homeless Prenatal Program as a company. We also donate to the ACLU for its work to protect civil liberties.
